Less Mess Super Spoon: Review!

The generous people at Baby's Pride were kind enough to send me 2 of their latest products for review.  The Less Mess Super Spoon and Spork.

The “Less Mess Super Spoon” is self leveling spoon that will clutch in any circular motion as it is nudged to the side of dish or bowl in any position with spoon bowl and handle. This provides the level position and smooth transition as the spoon is raised to the mouth.*

In action:

My LO is just over 1 year and has recently learned to self feed with a utensil so we have only used the spoon but the spork is designed the same way

I think the overall size and design of the spoon is genius and the name describes exactly what is does...LESS MESS!  In addition, the size of the spoon bowl holds just the right amount of food for your little eater.

In addition to the child learning to self feed, I think that the spoon's design could be carried into a product of larger size and be used for anyone with shaky hands (parkinson's, stroke, elderly, children with motor skills challenges, etc).

In the plethora of baby/children eating utensils on the market this spoon is THE ONE TO GET!

You can order by sending an email to: curriep@aol.com

*UPDATE* PUL fabric-Is it food safe?

This is an UPDATE to my previous post on 8/12/11

The question of PUL fabric being food safe is popping up everywhere and so has reusable snack/sandwich bag options.  My search to answer this question is proving to be almost impossible but I can say for certain that some are SAFER than others.  What I have found is that if it is labeled as being BPA, PVC, Lead and Phthalate free-you can be pretty confident that it is safe.  Some manufacturers will clearly state this.  Others will use descriptions such as "CPSIA complaint" or "certified food safe" and will require a bit more research on your part.

As a resource, I have compiled a list of reusable snack bag manufacturers with a description of materials used and links to their respective sites.  Please feel free to suggest more!

YOU are the reason why you are overweight

Recently, I retweeted a tweet on twitter (say that 5 times fast!) a link to an article about addiction being defined as a chronic brain disorder now and is no longer being considered behavioral.  I added the comment "Great, now every lazy fat ass can say not my fault".
Now your probably thinking I'm a jerk (I've been called worse).  And maybe I am.

In MOST cases, taking more calories into the body than your body can use causes unintended weight gain.  Many doctors even believe that as few as 1% is due to medical reasons.  That means, as many as 68% of Americans are overweight because of their own choices.

For the estimated 312,024,000 that are overweight the reason and newest "theory" is food addiction.  And let's say that is correct.  Here is a scenario for ya:

You open a 12 ounce bag of Doritos with the intent of only having a few but addiction takes over and you finish the entire bag.  You feel guilty and say to yourself you won't do THAT again but you do because you are addicted to food.  So what is a person to do?  How about this...

Go for a run, jog, walk.  Zumba.  Get a gym membership.  DO ANYTHING to work off those extra calories.

As I go back to my original comment of, "Great, now every lazy fat ass can say not my fault".  Can you now see why I said it?

1% of you can get mad at me, that is your right.  However, the rest of you (68%) have to realize that YOU ARE THE REASON WHY YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT.  Now get up and DO something about it.

PUL fabric-Is it food safe?

Finding the answer to this question is like finding the secret to eternal youth.

What is PUL fabric anyway? PUL stands for Polyurethane Laminate as is commonly used in cloth diapers.  It is what makes cloth diapers, covers & wraps waterproof and in the world of cloth diapering is GREAT!  So, when one thinks of ways to become more eco-conscious it seems logical to believe that PUL fabric made bags are a great alternative to the plastic (Ziploc) bags, right?  Well, not really.

I am not a scientist nor am I a food safety expert,  but with all the new information out there about BPA being bad and the possible toxicities of plastics, I find this question to be of utmost concern...esp as we become a more "green" household.

The long and short of it.  Is PUL fabric food safe?  Yes and No.  Apparently, there are different types of polyurethanes and in addition they made into different chemicals which all fall under the label "Polyurethanes".  The following link explains it the best that I can find:

  http://healthychild.org/blog/comments/get_answers_is_polyurethane_toxic/

And with that you ask, "What is the secret to eternal youth?" I'll let you know when I find it :-)
